PROMOCITI - Promoting active citizenship

Erasmus+ Projekt – KA2 Partnership in Adult Education

Project duration: March 2022 - March 2024

Project description

The main goal of the PROMOCITI project is to promote civic engagement and participation in adult education. We want to inspire adult education institutions such as educational houses to integrate active civic engagement into their portfolio and educational programs.

It is crucial for the educational staff of educational houses and similar organizations to adopt active citizenship as one of the main challenges for their future work and therefore to gain competence in how to initiate and promote processes and/or activities in the field of civic participation and to gain practical experience.

We aim to inspire adult education institutions to integrate active citizenship into their portfolio and educational programs by offering a Train-the-Trainer (TTT) course for their educational staff.

Within PROMOCITI, the curriculum for this TTT course will be developed, consisting of a theoretical and a practical part. A particular focus will be on the methodology of designing and facilitating hybrid workshops and digital storytelling. To ensure that the curriculum meets the needs of the field, we are looking for 3-4 people from each partner country who are willing to test it and provide feedback to the project team.

The theoretical part consists of two training modules (classroom sessions) in Spain and Austria. In the practical part, participants have to put their theoretical knowledge into practice. They are expected to organize at least one pilot workshop in their country/region to start a longer-term cooperation with local/regional stakeholders.

Folk High Schools and Active Citizenship in Europe

School leaders and pedagogues from 25 schools in five different countries have answered questions about their understanding of the concept of active citizenship and how they describe their school's work on this issue. The responses have been analyzed and compiled in the report "Folk high schools and Active citizenship".

Promoting Active Citizenship by Adult Education – A Curriculum for Educational Managers

A collection of all the findings from the Promociti project. This curriculum aims to help you find YOUR way to implement Active Citizenship in your educational programme.

This curriculum is not intended as a systematic guide on how to initiate or implement Active Citizenship processes. Interested readers can pick and choose the chapters that appeal to them most and that seem most relevant to their own personal or professional background and context.

The main aim is to promote civic engagement and participation through adult education based on shared European values.

Impuls Paper "Digital Active Citizenship in the context of Folk High Schools"

The digital aspect of Active Citizenship should not be forgotten in today's world - on the contrary! Integrating it is what makes the concept of Active Citizenship holistic. Especially with regard to younger target groups, the digital world is THE communication tool par excellence.

What does digital active citizenship actually mean? What can it look like?
What are the opportunities and challenges? And what role do folk high schools play in this?

The authors of the paper shed light on these questions and attempted - as the name suggests - to provide impetus.
