ARGE Bildungshäuser celebrates 70 years of successful educational work
The founders of ARGE Bildungshäuser were ahead of their time back in 1954 when they joined forces to strengthen and further develop Austrian adult education. Since then, the educational centres have continuously expanded their impact on society and have become important players in the educational landscape.
In his video message, Federal Minister Martin Polaschek emphasises the great importance of educational institutions in adult education and highlights them as a key partner in the educational policy initiatives of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research. ‘Education is the key to democratic freedom,’ emphasised Anna Thaller, Chairwoman of ARGE Bildungshäuser Österreich, underlining the enormous importance of educational work in the education centres.
Today, the educational centres of the ARGE comprise a total of 18 centres, which function as open places of encounter and dialogue. In their daily educational work, they jointly organised around 14,000 educational programmes in 2023 and reached over 300,000 participants. Each centre has its own profile and is particularly effective in the region in which it is located. The educational centres are barrier-free at all levels and work hard to make education accessible to everyone. The ARGE Bildungshäuser are not only places of learning, but also historical cultural monuments and important local employers. They contribute to strengthening the regional economy and are actively committed to sustainability and environmental protection.
Educational institutions are facing significant challenges such as the rapid development of artificial intelligence, climate change and demographic change. However, they are determined to meet these challenges with innovative educational programmes and a future-oriented approach. ARGE Bildungshäuser's priorities for the next three years include promoting democracy, shaping digital change and living sustainability. With their daily work and these focal points, the educational centres demonstrate their clear commitment to a society worth living in and their willingness to play an active role in shaping it.
The ARGE Bildungshäuser can proudly look back on 70 years of successful educational work and are ready to continue to play a leading role in the Austrian educational landscape in the future.
