#ebcamp25: Focus on AI, critical perspectives and sustainable learning
15.05.2025
Around 50 adult educators from Austria, Germany, South Tyrol and Poland took part in the two-day online event to exchange ideas, network and provide new impetus. The event, organised by ARGE Bildungshäuser Österreich together with bifeb and KEBÖ, once again confirmed its reputation as a creative, participatory and topical format.
Artificial intelligence - a perennial favourite with depth
As in previous years, the topic of artificial intelligence was at the centre of many sessions. The role of adult education in the age of AI, the responsible use of tools such as ChatGPT, Canva, Perplexity and Gamma as well as ethical and legal issues surrounding the new AI Act were discussed.
A particular focus was placed on the responsibility of adult educators, not only as users, but also as critical and reflective facilitators of learning processes. The consensus: AI is here to stay - the decisive factor is dealing with it competently and consciously.
Sustainability meets digitalisation
The tension between digitalisation and sustainability was also discussed intensively. The increasing consumption of energy and resources by AI systems gave rise to critical debate:
What makes sense? What is excessive? And how can EB organisations raise awareness of resource-conserving digital working?
The idea of a guideline for sustainable digitalisation in adult education was initiated - as a practical tool for education providers and trainers alike.
From OER (open educational resources) to political education and social media
In addition to AI and sustainability, #ebcamp25 offered a colourful variety of topics:
- OER and legally compliant work with open educational resources,
- political education in the public space,
- Visualisation with new AI tools,
- Learning products in the digital space,
- social media in adult education,
- and low-threshold access to the digital world - for example via QR codes, smartphones and buddy systems - were discussed and reflected on in a practical way.
The sessions on social media, learning support and digital challenges in everyday life in particular showed how diverse the reality in adult education is - and how important it is to have a space to discuss this.
Barcamp spirit still tangible
The #ebcamp remains true to its open format: no fixed speakers, no ready-made answers - just questions, ideas and experiences from the field for the field.
The two moderators Gaby Filzmoser and Bianca Baumgartner led through the programme in their usual confident manner - with plenty of room for spontaneous ideas, humorous moments and a real sense of community.
And what's next?
The organising team is already looking forward to the next #ebcamp in 2026. If you don't want to wait until then, you can find all the session transcripts and further information on the #ebcamp-Infoseite des bifeb and on the Webseite der ARGE Bildungshäuser Österreich.
Once again, it was clear that adult education is digital, critical, human - and full of the future.
