PROMOCITI takes the next step - a project for all of Europe

The PROMOCITI - Promoting Active Citizenship project will be spreading throughout many regions of Europe in the upcoming months, specifically Austria, Poland, Spain, Sweden and Germany. Teachers, educational advisors and trainers from folk high schools in five European countries have been trained over the past few months to become Active Citizenship ambassadors for their organizations. Now they will implement small projects in their regions that will strengthen active citizenship locally and connect them internationally with other projects of the group.

From 10-12 May 2023, 15 folk high school teachers met at SPES Zukunftsakademie in Schlierbach, Austria to participate in the second seminar of the PROMOCITI project's train-the-trainer program.

After a first meeting in Barcelona in November 2022, the participants continued to work on ways to positively influence active citizenship in their region. In small groups, the educators shared their ideas for projects in their folk high schools - from founding a rural artists' network in Sweden, to supporting local activists in Poland, to a border walk between Austria and Slovenia. What is important in all these small projects is international networking. This can happen in the form of a direct online exchange between committed people or through other small actions of support if the language barriers are too high.

In order to link the various actions digitally in a contemporary way, a workshop was held on digital storytelling, a method for preparing a personal story on video. The educators were able to create their own short videos about their experiences with Active Citizenship.

Afterwards, Active Citizenship in the digital space was also intensively discussed. The topic of digital networking in voluntary work, but also standing up for a fair, humane internet, are just two things that will accompany us all in the future.

An excursion to the independent radio station "Radio B138" again introduced the group to a more analogue way of active citizenship. Radio still has a very high status in Austria and free broadcasters are also a place of voluntary engagement here. Together, the group was even able to live broadcast a half-hour program on the project and Active Citizenship in their respective countries.

For the next few months, the 15 educators will implement small projects and incorporate the newly gained experiences into their work. We are already looking forward to the results!
