Info

The Augustinian canons' monastery Reichersberg is located on the Upper Austrian side of the Inn, between Braunau and Passau, nestled in the extensive, wild and romantic floodplain landscape. According to tradition, the monastery was founded in 1084 as the foundation of a wealthy couple and was expanded into a Baroque gem in the 17th century.

The monastery is still inhabited by Augustinian canons and is used as an educational centre, event centre and accommodation facility.

Courses and training programmes have been held here since 1969. The course programme comprises 57 events, including carving and sewing courses as well as calligraphy, meditation and photography. New this year are various music seminars. The premises are also rented out for external events. Numerous concerts and music events are organised in the cellar vaults and the church. The event centre is also popular for company celebrations and weddings. In spring there are the popular garden days and in autumn a high-quality arts and crafts market. The museum can be visited as part of a guided tour of the monastery, during which a canon provides an insight into life in the monastery.

The Bräustüberl, with its down-to-earth, regional cuisine, takes care of your physical well-being. The monastery shop offers all sorts of products relating to the church year, the monastery's own and other Austrian wines and home-made spirits. The monastery's guest rooms are popular with course participants and other holidaymakers alike.

Reichersberg Abbey is a spiritual and cultural centre in the heart of the Innviertel region and far beyond its borders.

The educational centre at Reichersberg Abbey is inextricably linked to the community of canons in this house.

The canons are not a monastic order that prays in seclusion from the public, but a cosmopolitan community that goes out into the communities, provides pastoral care there and invites the population into the house to participate in the activities at the monastery. This is also how the educational centre sees itself: it is open to everyone, regardless of religion or nationality.

Due to its proximity to the border, the Bildungshaus is a cultural link between Austria and Germany, emphasising what unites over what divides. This is evident both among international course participants and lecturers. The course programme itself is diverse and appeals to a wide range of participants, both young and old.

An important contribution to connecting the generations. Last but not least, the preservation and teaching of craft techniques also plays an important role. In a digitalised, fast-paced society, craftsmanship is becoming an anchor that grounds people and makes their own work visible.
